Mercedes' Depression-Era Dump Cake

This cobbler has always been a staple dessert in my family, dating back to the Depression Era when my great-grandmother was growing up. It was only as an adult that I learned it is more of a dump cake than a cobbler! Either way, it’s delicious.

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar

1 cup flour

1 cup milk

2 tsp. baking powder

Pinch of salt

2 cans preferred fruit

Directions:

Melt 1 stick of butter in an 8x8 or oval baking dish. Combine sugar, flour, milk, salt and baking powder in mixing bowl and stir until smooth.

Pour batter over melted butter.

Dump canned fruit over batter. Do not stir.

Bake for 45 minutes - 1 hour at 375.

Makes six servings.
